Meet the Team
The SSC team is based in the San Francisco Bay Area, while our Fellows and partner sites serve communities across California.

Program Director
Virginia Orman
Virginia joined the SSC team in April 2023 and brings extensive experience in youth programming, community engagement, operations, and program development. She previously served for two years as an AmeriCorps VISTA member, focusing on college access, service learning, food justice, and urban farming.

Virginia's professional background is in food justice, urban farming, operations, and program coordination. She has dual B.A.s in International Political Economy & Diplomacy and Religion & Politics with a focus on Middle Eastern studies from the University of Bridgeport, CT. ​

In her free time, Virginia enjoys reading books for her book club, cooking, gluten-free baking, teaching yoga sculpt, and e-biking around her neighborhood.

Program Director
Katherine Sue
Katherine joined the SSC team in September 2023 and is a proud alum, having served as the San Mateo County Office of Education's Environmental Literacy and Sustainability Fellow. In this role, she supported students and staff in advancing sustainable practices. Katherine most enjoys the opportunity to support SSC Fellows as they implement impactful projects focused on environmental education, climate action planning, and community engagement.

Katherine's professional background is in K-12 education, where she taught and supported students at the elementary level for over 10 years. She has a B.A. in Cell Biology from UC Berkeley, and an M.S.Ed. from the University of Pennsylvania. In her free time, Katherine enjoys making pottery, hiking, traveling, and cheering on Bay FC and the Golden State Valkyries.

National Service Director
Adolfo Rivera
Adolfo Rivera has dedicated his professional life to work benefiting children and young leaders. He has been involved with AmeriCorps since he joined Bay Area Community Resources in 1995, and is currently serving as the Director of BACR's National Service Programs. In this role he supports 4 separate programs that recruit, train, supervise, and support over 500 AmeriCorps members every year working with over 60 schools and community based organizations in 6 Bay Area Counties.
Adolfo was born and raised in San Francisco and currently lives in Oakland with his wife Erin; their 3 children Emilia, Bella, and Antonio; and their dog Paisley.
